List of Scholarships in Australia for International Students 2017/2018

 

The Australian Government, Universities and organizations offer a variety of Australian scholarships for international students. These scholarships are for Undergraduate or Postgraduate research/taught courses, vocational education or training.

Below is a list of scholarships in Australia for international students from Africa and developing countries with studies in the 2017/2018 academic session. While some of these scholarship applications are open op till next year 2017, some deadlines may have passed. But many of the scholarships are awarded annually. Take note of the time of the year applications open, and check back for the 2018/2019 session.

Australian Government scholarships for international students

Australia Awards Scholarships

Australia Awards, a cornerstone of the Australian Government’s development assistance program for Africa, provide access to postgraduate education, training and professional development opportunities for suitably qualified Africans from eligible countries. On their return to the workplace, Australia Awards Alumni are expected to contribute actively to development in their home countries.
Level of study: Masters degree
Application Deadline: 12th December for Masters Awards & 16th January for Africa Fellowships.

Australian Awards Fellowships

Australia engages with developing countries at government, business, professional and community levels. Australia Awards Fellowships offer Australian organisations, from all sectors, the opportunity to deepen and broaden their links with leaders and professionals in developing countries.
Application deadline: 10 March

Australian Government International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (AU IPRS)
IPRS enables international students to undertake a postgraduate research qualification in Australia and gain experience with leading Australian researchers. The scholarship covers tuition fees and health cover costs for scholarship holders, and health cover costs for their dependants.
Application Deadline: Applications for an IPRS is made directly to participating universities, hence deadlines are decided by these universities.

Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA) for International Students
The Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) scheme is administered by individual universities on behalf of the Department of Education and Training. APA scholarships are awarded to students of exceptional potential undertaking a Higher Degree Research in Australia. APAs are provided to assist with students’ general living costs.
Application Deadline: Applications for an APA is made directly to participating universities, hence deadlines are decided by these universities.

Universities in Australia Scholarships for International Students

University of Newcastle & Commonwealth Government Scholarships for Masters & PhD
The University of Newcastle Australia is offering university and commonwealth government scholarships for Research Masters & PhD degree for international students. Scholarships are granted on the basis of academic merit, which includes your undergraduate grade point average and extra research attainments.
Level of study: Undergraduate and Masters degree
Application Deadline: 15th September/31st January

La Trobe University Undergraduate & Postgraduate Africa scholarships
These scholarships offer up to $5,000 worth of tuition fees for students from Sub-Saharan Africa studying undergraduate or postgraduate coursework programs.

Western Sydney University International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS) Australia
International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS) are tuition fee scholarships for full-time study towards a higher degree by research. These prestigious scholarships are funded by the Australian Government. Western Sydney University supports IPRS awardees with a living allowance and overseas student health cover.
Level of study: Masters and Doctoral Research

Adelaide Scholarships International (ASI) Australia for Masters & Doctoral Studies
The University of Adelaide offers a scholarships scheme for international students undertaking postgraduate research study for Master’s and Doctoral degrees. The purpose of the financial award programme is to attract high quality overseas postgraduate students to areas of research strength in the University of Adelaide to support its research effort.

La Trobe’s Academic Excellence Scholarships ($10,000 – $20,000) for International Students
La Trobe’s Academic Excellence Scholarships (AES) cover tuition fees for high-achieving international students accepted into our undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs.

University of Melbourne MBA Scholarships for African Students
All successful full-time MBA candidates enrolling into the University of Melbourne are automatically considered for these awards and candidates will be notified of any scholarship support at the time of their application outcome.
Level of study: MBA

Africa Scholarships at Macquarie University Australia for Undergraduate & Postgraduate Studies
Under the Africa scholarships, Macquarie University will provide a specific amount annually to each successful student commencing in either 2016 or 2017. Payment of the scholarship will be applied equally towards your tuition fee for each session for the duration of your studies.
Level of study: Undergraduate and Masters degree

Curtin University MBA (Global) Future Leaders Scholarship
The MBA (Global) Future Leaders Scholarship has been developed by Curtin University to encourage and support academically talented students to commence the MBA (Global) at Curtin University.

Australian Catholic University MBA Scholarship for International Students
The Peter Faber Business School Postgraduate Scholarships are available to eligible international students commencing a course offered by the School of Business in 2017. Recipients will receive a AU$1,000 tuition-fee waiver for the first year of their course, provided they continue to successfully complete all their enrolled units. Scholarships are awarded to postgraduates who have a prior academic result of 70% or greater.

USydIS International Scholarships in Australia
The objective of the USydIS is to attract top quality international postgraduate students to undertake research projects which will enhance the University’s research activities. The USydIS is open to all research disciplines; however participation in the USydIS program Research Period 2 and Research Period 3 are at the discretion of the Dean of each faculty.

Sydney Scholars Awards for International Undergraduate Students
The Sydney Scholars Awards offers Year 12 (SS 3) students commencing their studies in 2017 the opportunity to apply for scholarships ranging from $6,000 to $10,000 in value and awarded in duration from one year, up to 5 years (combined degrees).
Level of study: Undergraduate

Victoria University International Postgraduate Research Scholarships
VU scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit and it should be noted that the competition is intense and only those applicants with outstanding academic results are likely to be successful. The Scholarship covers the full tuition costs, overseas student health cover and a VU International Postgraduate Research Scholarship which provides a living allowance of $22,860 per annum.

Macquarie University Scholarships for International Students
Macquarie University International Scholarships are available across most courses to cover international tuition fees for study on campus at North Ryde in an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree. The scholarship provides course fees for the minimum course duration.

University of Melbourne International Research Scholarships (MIRS)
The University of Melbourne, Australia offers Melbourne International Research Scholarships (MIRS) for international students to study in Australia. Each year the University offers about 200 new Melbourne Research Scholarships (MRSs), of which about 200 are normally awarded to international students as MIRSs.

Adelaide Scholarships International (ASI)
The University of Adelaide offers a scholarships scheme for international students undertaking postgraduate research study for Master’s and Doctoral degrees. A number of ASI scholarships will be available to outstanding international students from any country undertaking postgraduate research in any academic discipline.

University of Adelaide International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS)
The University of Adelaide offers The International Postgraduate Research Scholarships to high performing overseas postgraduate students in Australia. The International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) scheme is funded by the Commonwealth Government through the Department of Education, Employment & Workplace Relations (DEEWR).
Level of study: Masters and Doctoral degree

University of Newcastle Scholarships for Postgraduate Students
The University of Newcastle, Australia, offers a number of postgraduate research scholarships for International students to study for Master’s and Doctoral degrees. Scholarship application is open to international students from all countries with the exception of Australian and New Zealand citizens or Australian permanent residents. Scholarship applications will be accepted between 1 January and 31 August each year.
Level of study: Masters and Doctoral degree

Australian Catholic University International Student Scholarship
ACU offers scholarships to up to 20 international students starting undergraduate or postgraduate courses each year. They will cover half the full-time tuition fees. ACU also offers full tuition scholarships for up to two international students starting research degrees each year.
Level of study: Undergraduate Masters and PhD degree

Organizations in Australia Scholarships for international students

International Doctoral Research Scholarships New Zealand
The NZIDRS provides full tuition fees plus a living stipend for up to 36 months for international students to undertake PhD study at a New Zealand university. The NZIDRS are funded by the New Zealand Government and administered by Education New Zealand.
Level of study: Doctoral degree
Application Deadline: open November to 15 July 2017

IWC Water Leader Scholarships
The IWC Water Leader Scholarships offer full and partial tuition scholarships for Australian citizens, permanent residents and international applicants for the Master’s in Integrated Water Management program.
Level of study: Masters degree
Application Deadline: 1 August

UN-Nippon Fellowship Programme in Ocean Affairs for Coastal Developing Countries
The main objective of the fellowship is to provide opportunities for advanced education and training in the field of ocean affairs and the law of the sea, and related disciplines including marine science, to Government officials and other mid-level professionals from developing coastal States, so that they may obtain the necessary knowledge to assist their countries to formulate comprehensive ocean policy and to implement the legal regime set out in UNCLOS and related instruments.
